FIFE FLYERS 1 DUNDEE STARS 0

On Saturday night, Dundee Stars fell to a 1-0 defeat to Fife Flyers in Kirkcaldy, as they rounded off their preseason preparations.

By Kris Smith

After a week-long training camp for both sides and one sixty minute game on Friday evening, that Dundee won 4-1, each team were almost running on empty for energy.

However, they still provided some great entertainment for all those watching, as ice hockey returned to the Tayside area for the first time in 18 months.

Saturday night’s game started with two goalless periods, where penalties plagued each club from finding their rhythm, but eventually the Flyers took the lead on 50 minutes.

The home side were fired ahead by James Anderson, via a powerplay goal, as Dundee’s Markus Kankaanperä was sitting in the sin bin for a holding foul.

Todd Dutiaume’s men clung on to their slender lead until the end to round off their preseason with a home ice win.

Meanwhile, Omar Pacha saw more positives from his side’s second outing and also gave some ice time to back-up goaltender, Brython Preece, who entered the game at around 30 minutes.

Speaking to Stars TV after Saturday’s match, hear what Stars Head Coach, Pacha had to say.

The Stars enter competitive action next weekend, as they begin both their Challenge Cup and Elite League campaigns.

On Saturday night, Belfast Giants arrive in the City of Discovery for a cup contest, before Pacha takes his team on the road to play Nottingham Panthers in their opening league fixture.
